Gunsan Modern History Museum

근대역사박물관 This museum shows former Gunsan, as a trade port in the past and a center of marine distribution, and displays modern cultural heritage. There are marine logistics history room, children’s museum, special exhibition room, modern commemorate room, and design showroom.

(Former) Gunsan Customs Main Building

This building was constructed with the fund of Korean Empire in 1908. It is a one-story building of western style, and is one of the 3 western classical architectures, which exists in the country along with Seoul Railway Station and the Bank of Korea. It is currently utilized as Honam customs gallery. 구.군산세관 본관

Modern Architectural View (Former Chosun Bank Gunsan Branch)

근대건축관 (구.조선은행 군산지점) It was the representative financial institution for colonial rule during Japanese colonial era. Former Chosun Bank, completed in 1922, was repaired·restored, and is now utilized as a gallery for modern architectural models and bank related materials.

Modern Art Museum (Former Japanese 18th Bank Gunsan Branch)

근대미술관 (구.일본 제18은행 군산지점) It is the Gunsan branch of Nagasaki 18th bank, founded in 1907, and constructed in 1914, in order to plunder grains and land from people. This building, whose name was changed to Japanese 18th Bank by Cultural Heritage Administration in 2009, is reformed as modern art museum, and is utilized as exhibition space for donated Artworks and for local artists.

Jangmi Theater (Former Warehouse of Korea Express Co., Ltd.)

This modern building is a place of pain as it once was a warehouse where after Chosun Granery Corporation plundered and stored the grains in 1930s. It is reformed as a multi-purpose theater of small size with 77 seats, and is used as a place for performance and presentation of local cultural artists. 장미갤러리(적산가옥)

Miz Cafe (Miz Trading Company)

미즈카페(미즈상사) This is a modern building, utilized as a trading company and commercial facility in 1930s. By operating cafeteria on the 1st floor and a book cafe on the 2nd floor, it serves a resting place for the citizens and visitors.

Modern History Experience Center

This area is where foreigners used to reside during Japanese colonial era. The modern buildings from 1930s are repaired and organized for this area to provide modern history experience center with six houses for accomodations, ten sales facilities, including stand-up bar, cafe, and restaurants, history education center, and architecture reformation center. 근대역사체험공간

Gunsan Japanese Houses in Sinheung-dong

군산 신흥동 일본식 가옥 This is a traditional house of Japanese style, which was constructed by Hiroth, a Japanese fabric dealer of large scale during Japanese colonial era. It has a great architectural value as the roof, finishing touch of outer wall, and inner garden are kept as they were when it was first constructed. It is also a place of filming the movies, such as 'The son of the general' and 'Ttajja.'

Dongguksa (Temple)

This is the only temple left in Korea which was built in Japanese style. Plain eaves and many windows of the outer wall of the main temple are the characteristics of Japanese temples. 동국사

House of Lee Young-Choon

이영춘가옥 This is a country house, constructed by a Japanese landlord named Kumamoto in 1920s, and it is a compromise style building of western, Japanese, and Korean style. This building is more valuable for Dr. Lee Young-Choon, the first medical doctor, used this building. It is now formed as a memorial gallery of Dr. Lee Young-Choon.

Gunsan(Former) Impi Station

Impi Station is one of the oldest stations, built in 1912, in Korea, and is registered as a National Registered Cultural Properties no.208. In the Impi Station, ‘Ready-made life’, a novel of Chae Man-Sik, is displayed as a sculpture, while Sicily plaza, pond, time gun, train experience class, and traditional wellare located outside. This place is in the limelight as a memorial and romantic spot. 군산 구. 임피역

Chae Man-Sik Literature Museum

채만식 문학관 This is where you can meet Baekreung, Mr. Chae Man-Sik, the writer of ‘Takryu,’ which satirized social conditions under Japanese occupation. You can experience his behaviors and voices, which are reproduced, and feel his intense life through background and characters in his stories.
